Maestra en Música de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana y PhD en Etnomusicología de la Universidad de Pittsburgh, con certificados en Estudios Culturales y Estudios Latinoamericanos. Sus investigaciones se han centrado en el consumo cultural y la construcción social de discursos sobre identidad a partir de la escucha en repertorios de música popular latinoamericana del siglo XX, como el tango, el bolero y el vallenato. Profesora del Departamento de Música de la Universidad de Antioquia y coordinadora de la Maestría en Músicas de América Latina y el Caribe de dicha institución. Miembro del grupo de investigación Músicas Regionales, de la Universidad de Antioquia.
