Es catedrática del Departamento de Historia del Arte y Musicología de la Universidad de Oviedo (España). Autora del libro La canción lírica española en el siglo XIX (1998), entre 1994 y 2008 publicó cuatro ediciones de canciones del siglo XIX. Desde entonces, Alonso se ha centrado en la música española del siglo XX: identidades musicales, teatro lírico, músicas populares y música de cine. En 2014 publicó una monografía sobre el compositor Francisco Alonso (1887-1948). Más recientemente, ha centrado sus trabajos en música cinematográfica española y revista musical, así como en las relaciones entre teatro lírico y cine español. ORCID: 0000-0002-7811-8506

She is a Professor in the Department of Art History and Musicology at the University of Oviedo (Spain). Author of the book La canción lírica española en el siglo XIX (1998), she published four editions of 19th-century Spanish songs between 1994 and 2008. Since then, Alonso has focused on Spanish music of the 20th century: musical identities, theater, popular music, and film music. In 2014, she published a critical biography of the composer Francisco Alonso (1887-1948).
