Abstract

This article reviews some aspects of the musical practice of Club de Salsa Chile, active in Santiago during the late dictatorship, between 1986 to 1989. It argues that the Club’s regular practices, such as dancing and listening to music, offered participants tools to overcome the struggles of everyday life under military dictatorship, and provided a space for the rearticulation of social ties that had been corroded by the authoritarian regime.
